i-D online | Kiss Me Karlie

i-Profile: Karlie Kloss

How were you discovered? At a charity fashion show benefiting a friend’s family in St. Louis.

Do you think you would be a ballerina if you weren’t a model? That was one of the many dreams I had when I was younger, unfortunately as I continued to grow that dream changed as I became too tall to dance professionally.

What’s been your career highlight to date? I am beyond grateful for all the amazing experiences I’ve had over the years but honestly I am always finding myself excited about new highlights, challenges and goals I am constantly setting for myself. There are still so many more things I want to achieve and accomplish in my career!

Who are your favourite models?I am incredibly inspired by Christy Turlington.

What posters were on your bedroom wall as a kid?I had ballet pictures on my wall, one of my favorites was this Degas print I absolutely loved.

Are you in love? With life ;)

Why did you cut your hair?I wanted a change and when Vogue approached me about the story with Garren and Patrick I felt like it was the perfect time to do something new with my appearance.

Where can we get our hands on some Karlie Kookies? At the moment you can get Karlie’s Kookies at any of the Milk Bar stores in New York or online from theMilk Bar website, which can be shipped internationally.

If you could be photographed by anyone past or present who would you choose?I would have loved to work with Irving Penn, Avedon, or Helmut Newton.

The Q+A Issue: Karlie Kloss

Behind her cover wink for The Q+A IssueKarlie Kloss stars in a 12 page editorial shot by Matt Jones and styled by Sara Moonves. As she posed, preened, stretched and smiled to leave us swooning, we enjoyed a quick fire round of why and how questioning with the Chicago-born babe.

Name/Age/Star signKarlie Elizabeth Kloss, 20.5.

Describe yourself in 5 words… Tall, curious, sensitive, stubborn and passionate.

Being young is all about asking questions…I LOVE to ask questions and find out Why and How things happen. I am incredibly curious about everything, I don’t know if that is because I am young or just because of the way my brain is wired, I just want to know all there is to know!

Is there one burning question you’ve always wanted to ask the world? Something that bugs you, or you don’t understand? If so what is it and what would you want the answer to be? I would love to know if there are other life forms out there within our galaxy or our solar system. And I’d love to live long enough to maybe even experience space travel and perhaps even meet one? (LOL maybe thats a little crazy!…!) But it has just always bugged me not knowing if any other life forms are out there. Hopefully I’ll live long enough to find out the answer!

What’s the best thing about being alive? Learning and experiencing all that there is in this world! I feel so blessed to have a job that allows me to travel the world and work with incredibly talented people. My job enables me to see and try and do SO many things that I probably wouldn’t have had the opportunity (at least at such a young age) to experience otherwise.

What makes you happy? Being surrounded by the loved ones in my life.

What makes you smile? My 3 gorgeous sisters.
